Building the Pathway to Graduation, College and Career for Students of Color

The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans is partnering with the both the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics and the American Federation of Teachers to host a roundtable discussion in Los Angeles on Thursday, June 12th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The Initiative’s roundtable series is designed to promote positive and asset based approaches to supporting the learning and development of students of color. In particular, at the Los Angeles roundtable we will:

• Highlight the importance of supporting the academic, social and emotional development of students of color;

• Learn from young boys and men of color about the challenges and opportunities they face both in school and in the community as well as celebrating their success; and

• Share promising and proven programs, practices and policies accelerating the learning and development of students of color.
